Colorized Miniature Landscapes

Creative Process:

The 47th Kingdom are miniaturized and slightly fictitious landscape photographs taken throughout Washington State, which sits between the 45th and 49th parallels.

Each photo is black and white, shot in square format, and is digitally hand colored. These techniques mirror the historic process of colorizing black and white film at the turn of the 20th century. The format is a nod to both the square reflex film cameras popular in the 1950′s as well as to current popular photography. With their size and coloring these tiny images offer a twist on traditional black and white landscape photography, creating an alternative natural world of Washington State.

The photographs are printed as archival inkjet prints, 4″x4″.
